Welcome to the Greater Kansas City Post!
Dear Greater Kansas City Post Members:
It is a pleasure and honor to serve this year as your President of the Greater Kansas City Post of The Society of American Military Engineers. Ann Ewy did a fantastic job last year as President, and provided an exceptional turnover that has helped me greatly in assuming the duties of the position! The Post is in great shape and so far we are in full-swing to have an exceptional 2015. I am pleased to announce that last month we were notified by Headquarters that the Post has once again achieved Distinguished Post status for the fourth year in a row and for the tenth time in the past twelve years! Achieving Distinguished Post status requires extraordinary dedication and effort by everyone in the post, from Committee Volunteers and Chairs, Officers, Board of Directors and Fellows. For all in the Post who contributed, thank you for your time and professionalism. We are currently awaiting a decision from Headquarters on the coveted Top Post status and should receive word at any time. The competition for Top Post is stiff; however we look good and have more than a fighting chance to achieve the award.
The Greater Kansas City Post Annual Sponsors Program is as vibrant as ever! With the outstanding sponsorship of all the Post’s major events the program is an easy way to obtain marketing effectiveness with a convenient and simple process for participation on an annual basis. This year’s sponsors include: JE Dunn, HNTB, HDR, Yaeger Architecture, Burns & McDonnell, Terracon, Affinis, Cabrera Services, Poole Fire Protection, Ecology and Environment, Sevenson, Stantec, SM Wilson, Tehama, The Louis Berger Group, Tetra Tech, Trekk Design Group, IEC, Insight, and AECOM.
We are well into our third month of the year and have participated in the Future City and Science Pioneers Competitions, E-week, held two monthly Programs Luncheons, including the March luncheon discussing the PMP education and training process, and K-State & UMKC Student Chapter meetings. New initiatives this year include expanding Professional Education and Training benefits to our membership in the form of stipends for professional certifications and registrations, and developing the Planned Gift Fund within the Endowment. More information will follow in April concerning both of those initiatives.
We have numerous Post events scheduled throughout the remainder of 2015 starting with the upcoming 7th Annual Industry Day, monthly luncheons, Warrior Transition Panels, CGSC Engineer Social, the Vice President's Dinner, YM Events, the Annual Sporting Clays Challenge and the Small Business Workshop. On a national level, the GKC Post will be participating in the Joint Engineer Training Conference & Expo, May 19-21, in Houston, TX. Please continue to review our weekly e-blasts (Upcoming Events) and the Post website for information on future activities, events and initiatives. Thanks to Deb English and the Communications Committee on the outstanding effort in publishing the newsletter and weekly eblasts!
The start of the SAME year has been exciting and the remainder of the year will be outstanding! I look forward to serving all the members in 2015 and want to hear all your great ideas and initiatives that can benefit the society!
